To say Marian is simply a foodie would be an understatement. Gourmand (one who is excessively fond of eating and drinking) would be a better descriptor however it doesn’t quite flow. When I asked her what made her so passionate about food, her eyes lit up and she moved to the edge her seat telling me how it was her obsession, how thoughts of food were on her mind 24/7 and even as she consumed it, each bite would resonate. I laughed but I believed her.
I first met Marian Bacol-Uba at ConnectOC in September. We shared a blogger’s table and her vivacious personality and zest for life was refreshing. It’s no wonder that her blog tells the same story. Marian began her journey in August 2009 as way of sharing recipes with close friends and that ultimately led to covering her favorite restaurants, events, and anything else she might happen to encounter. Her affinity for fine cuisine, which comes from traveling abroad, has put her in a unique niche and she is now a well established source when it comes to food and food related events.
Guessing the answer, I dared to ask if there was anything she hadn’t tried or wouldn’t. She paused, gave me a blank stare, and shrugged her shoulders. I took a sip of my coffee and then she blurted out “Oh, I was creeped out by the scorpion and the live silkworm was kinda gross.” I wish I had a bucket because I thought I felt something sliding out from the back of my throat but she preceded to tell me about the squishy guts and all I could think about was an episode of Fear Factor and Marian being the fearless competitor while I tried to compose myself. Next on Marian’s list? Blowfish at Urasawa in Beverly Hills.
In the near future, Marian plans to continue sharing her love of food and work her way into the marketing arena. Last year, she expanded her social presence by launching a YouTube channel. With Marian, you’ll find a pure, wholesome experience into her life has a foodie. She tells it like it is and welcomes you into the fold as if you were there with her.
