I’m not one for commercials. I DVR and watch later and if I want to watch in the present, I DVR the show for 30 minutes so I can fast forward through the commercials however one day I was so caught up tweeting, facebooking, etc online that I forgot about the TV until I heard some Eastern music. Huh? Did the channel suddenly change without me knowing it? Nope. Instead I was stuck watching a woman strip out of a red dress down to a burger printed bikini in an effort to promote a new item for Carl’s Jr created by Men’s Health. The ad featured Miss Turkey, Gizem Memic, selling what else? A turkey burger that’s under 500 calories. Wow. I watched it again and again. I was enamored. It was brilliant advertising and better than the car wash Paris Hilton scene. Sorry Paris. That’s NOT hot.
I guess the reason why I like it so much is the honest straightforward nature of the presentation. The ad blatantly states Miss Turkey was hired to help us remember the charbroiled turkey burger, and to help us remember Miss Turkey they put her in a bikini, and to help us remember her bikini it was printed with tiny replicas of the burger itself (which I heard was a custom one of a kind). So yeah, while she might be taking a pool side stride, she’s not slutting herself out on a car. Sorry again Paris.
As for the burger, I ventured out 3 miles up the street to the nearest Carl’s Jr. Much to my dismay, they didn’t have a drive-thru. Boo. I had to go inside but luckily at that late hour, no one was there to witness me in my sweats. There’s a selection of 3 turkey burger sandwiches all crafted between a honey wheat bun. You can pick from the guacamole, teriyaki, or the original. I went with the guacamole turkey burger. This burger is prepared with pepper jack cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, and the turkey patty. I added more calories by making it a combo and got a suspicious look from the cashier. Hey lady, don’t judge me. I’m not here for health reasons. I came because of the commercial so be thankful I’m giving you my $6. Besides, life is too short to count calories. The texture is good but I can’t really say there was a wow factor. This might also be due to that fact that my fries were bit soggy and the chilled guacamole made my turkey patty stone cold. No bueno. My usual here is the crispy chicken bacon burger which usually puts me into a food coma but the turkey burger actually left me feeling satisfied and gave me some energy which I liked. Perhaps, I need to give this a try somewhere else either way I’m pleased there’s a healthier alternative at a fast food restaurant and I think all chains should comply.
Carl’s Jr, all I gotta say is bravo.
