It’s not every day that a girl gets wined and dined but when she does it’s an intimate affair with an inspiring chef.
At first glance, Executive Chef Chris Tzorin is wild, crazy, and charismatic but that’s just a small part of who he is. As part of Gigasavvy’s Social Club, I was given the opportunity to sample the menu at Savvanah Chophouse and with each bite of each dish, I peeled back the layers behind the man himself, how he got his start, and what keeps him motivated in the kitchen.
I’ve always believed that behind every great dish is a chef waiting to tell you a story. You see a beautiful plate of food but here at Savannah Chophouse, Executive Chef Chris Tzorin is scouring local farmer’s market, looking through produce and meats that are sustainable, and bringing all that back to table with 12 years of experience to bring you a masterpiece worthy of your refined palate. And our night, under the stars at the gorgeous patio overlooking Laguna Niguel, was exactly that.
Now let’s tell the story of this intimate affair:
Our night began with a refreshing white wine sangria and some tray passed appetizers. Guests were given an option of three appetizers: Smoked Salmon on a Toasted Point, Bruschetta, and Grilled Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp. These small bites whet our appetites for the main course that was yet to come and I couldn’t wait to dive in.
Then came along a three course meal that left us all in awe. The Tempura Stuffed Zucchini with herb goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, baby mixed greens and ponzu was a delight straight from a local farmer’s market.
It was followed up with a refreshing palate cleansing Watermelon Beet Salad (mixed blend, candied pecans, goat cheese, and an herbal vinaigrette) that prepared us for the final round – the Surf and Turf (Filet medallion with Shrimp Scampi, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and a Cabernet reduction).
You can’t end a great meal without an equally fabulous dessert – a Strawberry Short Cake. We were presented with a warm vanilla cake, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. So light, yet so perfect.
Savannah Chophouse in Laguna Niguel is a great spot for a casual get together, a private dinner, or a celebration for two. The dark woody interior, plush booths, and elegant tables create the perfect ambiance for any occasion.
