In celebration of the first day of Fall (please give California the memo – it’s currently 84 degrees out), Starbucks announced a brand new drink – the Toasted Graham Latte and yours truly couldn’t wait to check it out.
With a Gold Card reward expiring soon, I thought it would be the perfect time to treat myself to a venti Fall drink. The Toasted Graham Latte (TGL) is the perfect companion to the ever so popular Pumpkin Spice Latte – PSL (now made with real pumpkin or a puree of sorts).
Since 2003, the PSL has announced the arrival of Fall however the green mermaid has one upped the game with new Fall inspired cups and this brand new creation. Consisting of toasted graham cracker syrup, espresso, steamed milk, and topped with sprinkled cinnamon graham crumbles, the TGL’s flavor profile was developed to be more like graham crackers in warm milk or the “milk left behind in a cereal bowl” but it’s more like a warm hug in a cup.
While the PSL is reminiscent of pumpkin pie, the TGL more closely resembles a hot chocolate with some french vanilla and hazelnut notes. I think it tasted more like the Chestnut Praline Latte that emptied out my bank account last year.
While the PSL is super sweet, the TGL is not. I ordered a venti and it wasn’t overly annoying like most Fall drinks are (I’m looking at you Gingerbread Latte). If you’re like me, and don’t like the sweet stuff, you will love the TGL. It is the milder alternative to the PSL and I promise you won’t be disappointed by the flavors. So celebrate Fall, get yourself a cup (or two), and get seasonally inspired with the swanky new cups.
And oh hey Irvine Starbucks at Alton/Technology – thanks for spelling my name right.
