You’re all familiar with food trucks but the latest and greatest is a red hot British Double-Decker bus and catering venue called Monarch Social. Owners Matt and Sarah Harrison have transformed a 1984 Leyland Olympian into somewhat of a fun spectacle. The bottom portion of the bus is a fully furnished kitchen with a wood-fired stone oven as its main centerpiece. The top of the bus is an intimate dining area that can seat about 15 people. If you’ve got more than that in your party, no worries. The bus is mainly a show piece. The Harrisons want it to be more like a mobile kitchen with Matt behind the wheel and Sarah in the kitchen.
With their double decker bus now fully functioning and ready to go, the Harrisons hope to plan several social gatherings throughout Southern California and turn Monarch Social into a pop-up for aspiring chefs so it won’t always be Sarah behind the kitchen.
Monarch Social had their debut about a month ago where the Harrison’s call home – Huntington Beach and I was fortunate enough to try some of the very first offerings from the mobile bus kitchen and I was quite impressed with all that came out – especially all the various flat bread pizzas.
