According to the American Cancer Society, besides skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among American women. It accounts for nearly 1 in 3 cases of cancer. Today, 1 in 8 will get breast cancer in their lifetime. If you think about it, those are some scary stats so I was happy to hear that a local hip and trendy hangout, Pie Dog in Fullerton, was ready to do something about it and fight the cause in a fun way called Beer for Boobies.
Partnering up with Keep a Breast Foundation, Beer for Boobies was part of a monthly beer pong tournament held at Pie Dog and all proceeds from the event were donated to support breast cancer awareness. Colorado based brewery, Oskar Blues, sponsored the event with a selection of their finest Pinner, Dale Pale Ale, Ten FIDY, and Death by Coconut Beers.
During Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, I was honored to attend their event and check out their selection of burgers, fries, and beers on tap. Pie Dog has 24 worldwide craft beers on tap at all times including light and dark options. The husband and wife team Donny Gaudiano and Grace Wu, behind Pie Dog, pride themselves on their impressive beer selection, a menu filled with gourmet house-ground steak burgers, and hand-crafted sausages that are the perfect complement to any beer available on tap.
I was excited to support a great cause and dive into the fun menu items at Pie Dog including the Hot Box Burger which intrigued me from the minute I walked in. Now I bet you’re wondering what that is? Imagine Mac and Cheese and Hot Cheetos with that delicious house-ground steak burger patty we were just talking about? Damn straight. Inspiration behind this burger? Yeah, a little hotboxing. Chef asked his kids what they eat when they’re hotboxing and the response was “hot cheetos and mac and cheese.” So there you have it folks. And guess what? You can join in on the fun, every year, on April 20th (4/20). I know I’ll be there.
Another favorite from the night was the Fun Guy. Anything named Fun Guy is guaranteed a good time, right? Yep. This burger is made with swiss cheese, G sauce, and sauteed mushrooms. I love sauteed mushroom on any burger so I was sold from the description and was happy that it did not disappoint.
If you’re getting a burger at Pie Dog, do not miss the sides. They do not, I repeat DO NOT skimp on sides here. I got a generous serving of the Franch Fries – fries that are crispy and lightly seasoned with garlic and parmesan. I suggest you get them tossed.
The great thing about Pie Dog is that they live up to the their motto – to be hip and trendy, serve fabulous food, and knock your socks off with an unbeatable beer list. All while remaining humble, supporting great causes, and helping out the local Fullerton community. What’s not to love about having beer while supporting a cause? If you’re in town, looking for a great place to eat and hang out, don’t miss Pie Dog.
